Yesterday New Years day not only did I enter the Duston Tri I also did a 45min session on my Turbo, This was more about finding my feet and seeing how bad my condition is. After doing nothing since the 8/12 I'm not in great shape. This next couple of days is all about seeing how bad things are then the training starts proper on Monday 6/1.
2/1 Just got back from a swim at the local pool. swam 800 metres, not great but ive got to start somewhere. Its a 25 metre pool and I can just about do two lengths non stop!!! I also alternated my stroke each length between breaststroke my best and crawl which I will have to swim at the event...thank god ive got 4 months!

New Years Madness
Hmmmm
Well guess what I did on New Years day? Rest a severe hangover? erm no! Inspired by a book I read a few months back called "Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run" I decided to bite the bullet and enter a local sprint triathlon. The Duston Sprint Triathlon which consists of 400m swim in a pool, 20k bike ride and a 5k run
Can I swim? Well I could a few years back but not so great now. Can I ride well in October 2013 I manged a 50mile plus ride so hopefully the the ride shouldn't be a problem. Finally can I run ? Like swimming I used to, a few years back. But given my back problems and my Achilles issues im not sure anymore. But its only 5k so If the worst comes to the worst I should be able to walk round!
So Monday 06 Jan is the start of my training the Tri is on the 20 April so I have 4 months to get my act together and im going to need it all. The days leading up to Monday will be spent doing test runs, swims , bike rides to see how unfit I am.
This blog is really for my own benefit to record my training and my thoughts I may decide to publish I'm not sure yet. Andy Holgate (the other of a very inspirational book) this is your fault. :-)
